On Gasoline

Due to concerns over the shortage of gasoline, Japan has began shipping gasoline stocks and will start operating refineries such as Negishi from next week. The refineries in western Japan that used to operate at a 60% capacity before the earthquake will be brought into the eastern Japan area in full operation. Furthermore, regarding reserves, the stockpiling obligation of private reserves are to be decreased from 70 to 67 days to allow three days worth of products, not crude oil, to be used nationally. That's quite an amount. Initially, there were places in the disaster area where products from the oil depots could not be released because there was no electricity to release the gasoline, but finally oil depots in disaster areas like Shiogama have been able to do so. Things will start running again soon.
